GENERAL INFORMATION

Peru Utilities is a municipally owned, multiple service utility company providing electric, water and wastewater treatment services to the community of Peru, Indiana, the neighboring Grissom Aeroplex and 1/3 of rural Miami County, Indiana. GOVERNANCE

Peru Utilities is governed by the Peru Utilities Service Board. The Board consists of five members, three appointed by the Mayor of the City of Peru and two members appointed by the Peru City Council. Board members serve four year staggered terms. No more than 2/3 of the Board may be of the same political party. The Board exercises general policy making responsibility over the operation of Peru Utilities. The Board retains the services of the General Manager to oversee the daily operation of Peru Utilities. The Board has the authority to set annual budgets and appropriate funds for the operation of Peru Utilities. The Board recommends rates and charges for service however legislative action by the Peru City Council is required to make rates and charges legally enforceable. In addition, water and electric rates require approval of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission prior to implementation.

OPERATING DIVISIONS

Electricity

The Electric Division serves approximately 10,820 customers in a service area that covers nearly 97 square miles. The Transmission and Distribution Department operates and maintains four substations having a total of 112 MVA of transformation capacity as well as 319 circuit miles of primary distribution lines. The Department also operates 11 miles of 69 KV transmission line. The T&D Department employs 15 persons.

The Electric Division owns 33 MW of coal-fired generating capacity. This generation is under contract with the Indiana Municipal Power Agency and the plant output is sold into the Midwest Independent System Operator Power Market.

The Electric Division is a full-requirements purchaser of wholesale electricity from the Indiana Municipal Power Agency. The Agency jointly owns or controls 557 MW of generating capacity for the economic benefit of 50 municipal utility members.

The power plant employs 14 persons.

Water Treatment and Distribution

Peru Operations - Serves approximately 4,963 customers, generally within the corporation boundaries of the City of Peru. Raw water is obtained from the Teays River Aquifer by 4 wells having a maximum capacity of 9.5 million gallons per day. The treatment plant has a maximum capacity of 4 million gallons per day. The Peru Operations has a total of 3.35 million gallons of treated water storage capacity. The Peru Water Operations employs 11 persons

Grissom Aeroplex Operations - Serves approximately 950 customers within the boundaries of the former Grissom Air Force Base. Raw water is obtained from three wells having a maximum capacity of 3 million gallons per day. The water treatment plant has a maximum capacity of 2 million gallons per day. The Grissom Aeroplex Operations has a total of 2.1 million gallons of treated water storage capacity.

Wastewater Collection and Treatment

Peru Operations - Serves approximately 5,004 customers, generally within the corporation boundaries of the City of Peru. The Department operates and maintains 85 miles of sewer collection system, most of which are combined sanitary and storm sewers, as well as an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant rated at a maximum capacity of 8.0 million gallons per day with a peak of 26 million gallons per day. The Peru Wastewater Operations employs 12 persons.

Grissom Aeroplex Operations - Serves approximately 950 customers within the boundaries of the former Grissom Air Force Base. The Department operates and maintains approximately 35 miles of sanitary sewers and 30 miles of storm sewers. Wastewater treatment is provided by sequencing batch reactor rated at 1 million gallons per day and a conventional activated sludge facility rated at 2 million gallons per day. The Grissom Water/ Wastewater Operations employs 5 persons.

Administration & Support Services

Peru Utilities employs 14 persons in the area of meter reading, billing, customer services and accounting.

In an effort to increase public awareness of electrical and water safety, conservation and pollution, Peru Utilities sponsors an annual Art Calendar Contest. Thirteen art works are selected every year from elementary students in Miami County and used to create our yearly calendar.

Technical support services are provided by a staff of 4, which includes an engineering supervisor, electrical engineer, project engineer, safety manager, SCADA technician, and a CAD operator.
